Welcome to the first of a three-part travel guide from my dream honeymoon trip to Bali in July. Over nine days, we traveled to three very different parts of Bali and loved each and every place – it’s impossible to pick a favorite! Read on for the best places to eat, drink, sleep and chill in Uluwatu, Seminyak and Ubud.
First up…Uluwatu!
Eat & Drink
Kelly’s Warung – If you’re willing to brave the maze-like village walk and ensuing cliff trek down to Bingin Beach, you’ll be rewarded with the oasis that is Kelly’s Warung. A covered stone patio overhung with bougainvillea is reminiscent of Greece, right in the middle of the Indian Ocean. We were lucky enough to grab a front row seat before the midday rush and enjoyed a cold beer while watching the surfers. Lunch options include fresh wraps, sandwiches, fruit smoothies, and salad bowls.
OM Burger – A casual burger spot that felt like we were eating in a tree house – in a good way since it’s right on the main street. The extensive menu has a variety of fresh juices, smoothies, bowls and of course, burgers. We ordered a mango and kale smoothie to share and I had the popular vegetarian Om Superfood Burger on a beetroot bun. It seriously rivaled the by Chloe’s guac burger. They also have raw vegan super food ice cream made with coconut sugar if you left room for dessert.
Bukit Café – Right on the main street, Bukit Café has everything you could ever want for breakfast, lunch or dinner, plus an Insta-worthy setting. We went for a late lunch and sat outside on their patio among the hip Australian crowd. The zucchini noodles with fresh pesto and cherry tomatoes tasted as good as homemade and the iced latte was one of the best we had in Bali, served in a cute mason jar mug.
Stay
Anantara Uluwatu – We had a really hard time picking a hotel in Uluwatu; we felt like the hotels were either way out of our price range or they were a better fit for a group of friends on a surf trip instead of newlyweds on their honeymoon. Luckily, we found the Anantara and reserved an ocean view suite with our own private pool. Even though the hotel had a public infinity pool for guests, there’s something special about having your own private pool on your honeymoon. The hotel staff was incredibly nice and helpful, the hotel was conveniently located for most beaches and activities, and the fruit spread at breakfast was unbeatable.
Despite our severe jet lag and sleep deprivation from the wedding, Uluwatu was a fun area to explore and a perfect first stop on our trip to Bali to get our feet wet. We even had a run-in with a monkey on our first day to prepare us for Ubud…
Stay tuned for Part two on Seminyak!
